Best. Car. Ever. Purchased. !!!
By Soulful | on Thursday, March 11, 2021
Approaching 6 month/5k mile mark with my 2020 Soul S. Absolutely. The. Best. Car. I've. Ever. Owned. Bought the S model because of it's full complement of safety features. Amazing that such a roomy, well-build car with the world's greatest warranty and packed full of safety features was available for less than $20k. This is my 2nd Kia in past 11 years (plus an additional Hyundai) so I'm hooked on Korean quality and value. Considered coughing up additional $2.5k for the EX model and its many standard features unavailable on the S trim level but have no regrets. Dealer performed IVT software update per Technical Service Bulletin at first service visit (oil change) so I'm reasonably confident I won't be plagued by transmission issues. BTW, this is not only my first IVT/CVT vehicle, but my first non manual transmission vehicle in 30+ years. The IVT is a godsend!!! Auto Stop/Start is fine--it's operation is so seamless that I had the car two weeks before I realized it was included. Purchased in Inferno Red which I love; if I knew at time of purchase that this trim level also came in Solar Yellow I possibly would have held out for one in that color. Also disappointed that at most trim levels only black interiors are available. I understand that this is a trend among all car makers, but please give us the option to choose other interior colors such as gray or beige/tan.… - 3.0
An "almost great' car
By Jaysauls | on Tuesday, January 05, 2021
I had a 2012 base model Soul that I absolutely loved. For a base automatic it was well optioned. I had it until a few years ago when the electronics turned to junk, sold it, but always wanted another. So I bought a 2021 base model with manual transmission. I was a bit disappointed with the fact that the base doesn't come with key fob, cruise control or Sirius XM radio, all previously included on my 2012 base model. This one is much roomier, quieter, heavier and definitely feels better made. Everything is fine except the transmission. Gears 2-6 are great, 1st gear has to be the WORST gear-range of any manual I have ever driven. And this includes the old '3-speed on the tree', school buses, heavy construction trucks, tractors...you name it! 1st gear winds out at about 25mp. The RPMS are screaming and car is barely moving. If you redline it you can hit 40mph. Wow. And 1st gear is extremely tempermental. You are either riding the clutch or stalling the car. There is very little room in the gas/rpm range to drive. I start of most of the time in 2nd gear if there's any slope to allow the car to move. Once out of 1st, everything is fine. 5th and 6th gear have enough torgue to keep the car moving at interstate speed without having to shift. Because of the 1st gear issues I won't keep this car but about a year. If 1st gear had a bit more 'ooph' to it, or could wind out a bit longer, it would be a blast. As it it, it really kinda sucks.…
